What does a Divemaster do?

Dimaster help Customers

A Divemaster generally has a variety of responsibilities – ranging from resort based activities to boat based ones. You can expect to be involved in:

  • ‘meeting and greeting’ customers
  • coordinating divers’ requirements such as dive site requests and maximum depth allowances
  • managing the dive roster, spare kit and first aid on board
  • and, of course, underwater guiding

Additionally, if you are working at a resort, you may also become involved in other aspects of the business such as equipment sales; if you’re working on a live-aboard boat, your duties could involve working behind the bar or in the kitchen, or even driving a boat. Often it’s pretty much up to you as to how much you want to take on.
